Personal Motor Vehicle Coverage Options
The following coverages are available for most motor vehicle insurance policies. Not all coverages are available with all companies, and some limitations and exclusions apply. This list is not all-inclusive. You may have some of these coverages, and higher limits may be available. Be sure to ask your agent if you want additional information. We recommend an annual policy review with your agent to be sure you have the coverage you want and need.
BODILY INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY: These are mandatory coverages. This helps protect you if you’re legally responsible for an accident that causes injury to someone else or damage to their property. Bodily injury liability covers things like medical bills, lost wages, and legal costs if you injure another person. Property damage liability pays for repairs or replacement if you damage someone else’s property, like their vehicle, fence, or building. It doesn’t cover your own injuries or damage.
MEDICAL PAYMENTS: This coverage applies to reasonable expenses for medical services incurred from a covered accident, regardless of fault.
MICHIGAN PIP (PERSONAL INJURY PROTECTION): PIP is part of Michigan’s auto insurance that helps pay medical and other costs if you are injured in a car accident, regardless of who is at fault. This may include Medical Expenses, Wage Loss Benefits, Replacement Services, and Funeral/Burial Benefits.
UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTORIST BODILY INJURY: This coverage provides compensation for bodily injury you and your passengers are legally entitled to recover from the owner or operator of an uninsured or underinsured motor vehicle.
COMPREHENSIVE: This provides coverage for damage to your vehicle caused by something other than a collision, such as fire, theft, vandalism, windstorm, hail, falling objects, animal impact, or glass breakage.
COLLISION: This covers damage to your vehicle caused by colliding with an object such as a vehicle, building, guard rail, pothole, or grocery cart. Coverage settlement options may include Actual Cash Value, Stated Amount, or Agreed Value. (Options for MI residents include Limited, Regular, and Broad).
UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTORIST PROPERTY DAMAGE: UMPD covers your insured vehicle when it is damaged by a vehicle that is at fault and doesn’t have auto insurance (uninsured) or enough insurance (underinsured). Hit-and-run accidents are NOT included in this coverage. This is an option for automobiles that don’t have collision coverage or that have collision coverage with a deductible greater than $250.
SPECIAL TORT LIABILITY: In Michigan, if you’re 50% or more at fault in a crash, you may have to pay up to $3,000 toward the other driver’s deductible or damages if they don’t have collision coverage. This coverage pays for that on your behalf.
ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE: Roadside Assistance Coverage provides emergency services at the time and place of vehicle disablement within 100 feet of the roadway due to: mechanical or electrical breakdown, battery failure, insufficient supply of fuel, flat tire, lockout, or entrapment in snow, mud, water, or sand.
RENTAL REIMBURSEMENT: This provides coverage for a rental car when your vehicle is not drivable due to a covered loss.
LOAN/LEASE GAP: Loan/Lease Gap coverage pays the difference between the unpaid amount due on the covered vehicle’s loan or lease agreement and the actual cash value of your vehicle (usually not to exceed 125%), in the event of a covered total loss.
DEDUCTIBLE WAIVER: *Varies by company. May waive your deductible for a covered total loss; or if the covered vehicle collides with an identifiable, uninsured motor vehicle; or if you have multiple owned vehicles in the same loss, only the highest deductible applies to all involved scheduled vehicles. May reimburse you for taxes, title, and fees when purchasing a replacement vehicle for a total loss.
IDENTITY THEFT: This coverage offers reimbursement of expenses necessary to help protect your family, finances, and future if you become a victim of identity theft.
MOBILE DEVICES: This coverage provides up to $1,000 in coverage for loss to radios, tape players/compact disc players, mobile and cellular phones, including Smartphones, iPods, MP3 players, tablets, and similar devices while in the vehicle and not permanently installed. It does not include radar detectors. A $100 deductible applies and is limited to one occurrence per policy term.
PET INJURY: This coverage will provide up to $1,000 of coverage in the event the family dog or cat is injured or killed in a covered accident.
FULL SAFETY GLASS: Waives your “Other than Collision” deductible for a glass claim.
ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER: This coverage changes the loss settlement for Other Than Collision and Collision Coverages if it is ten years or less. Parts damaged in a covered loss are replaced with original manufacturer parts when available. Some parts, such as glass and custom equipment, are excluded.
NEW AUTO REPLACEMENT AND TOTAL LOSS UPGRADE: This coverage pays for the covered vehicle to be replaced if it is two years old or less and totaled due to a covered loss. The vehicle must be insured for collision coverage and will be replaced with a new one of the same make and model.
CAR KEY REPLACEMENT: This coverage provides you or a family member with up to $500 in reimbursement for expenses incurred to replace the key or electronic entry device for your covered auto or a non-owned auto due to mechanical, electrical, or electronic breakdown or failure, or if the device is lost or stolen. One claim per vehicle per policy period is covered, regardless of the policy term. A separate deductible will not apply to settle a claim or loss.
MINOR VIOLATION FORGIVENESS: This coverage is available for purchase when a policy meets the driving record requirements. It will waive the surcharge for one minor moving violation per household.
RIDESHARING GAP COVERAGE: This coverage provides limited coverage for vehicles used in connection with a Transportation Network Company, such as Uber, Lyft, etc.
EXTENDED NON-OWNED COVERAGE FOR NAMED INDIVIDUAL: This endorsement extends Liability, Medical Payments, and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists Bodily Injury coverages, if carried, for the designated individual’s regular use of a non-owned auto.
CUSTOM EQUIPMENT: Coverage for custom equipment permanently installed by the original manufacturer or dealership as part of the original sale, is automatically provided when the covered vehicle is insured for Other Than Collision and/or Collision. If you have equipment installed by someone else, this coverage needs to be added.
DIMINISHING DEDUCTIBLE: With every year that the insured goes without an at-fault accident, an accrued deductible credit will be deducted from the coverage deductible to determine what amount the insured will pay in the event of a covered Collision or Comprehensive claim.
PURCHASE PRICE GUARANTEE: The insurance company will pay the original purchase price of the insured vehicle, less any applicable deductible. This coverage applies until the first renewal after the vehicle purchase date is 2 years in the past.
RV- FULL TIMERS AND VACATION LIABILITY: Ask your agent for details.
CONTENTS/PERSONAL EFFECTS: Covers your personal property used in conjunction with a covered automobile, motor home, travel trailer, or truck camper.
ACCIDENTAL DEATH BENEFIT: Provides coverage in the event of accidental death of an eligible person.
VEHICLE PROTECTION: This provides protection for mechanical breakdown (engine/transmission or electronic equipment), key fob replacement, and minor dent and ding repairs on any vehicle for which the coverage is purchased.
Personal Property Coverage Options
The following coverages are available for most personal property insurance policies. Not all coverages are available with all companies and some limitations and exclusions apply. This list is not all-inclusive. You may have some of these coverages, and higher limits may be available. Be sure to ask your agent if you want additional information. We recommend an annual policy review with your agent to be sure you have the coverage you want and need.
EARTHQUAKE: This would provide coverage for damage to your dwelling and your personal property for damage caused by earth movement.
FLOOD: This would provide coverage for your dwelling and/or your personal property in the event of a flood. This must be purchased on a separate policy; however, limited inland flood coverage may be available for purchase on the home policy.
INCREASED LIMITS OF COVERAGE FOR THE FOLLOWING ITEMS (These items currently have special maximum limits of coverage that apply): Money, securities, watercraft, trailers, jewelry, furs, silverware, guns, tools, and property used for business purposes.
WATER BACK-UP OF SEWERS OR DRAINS: This covers damage to your dwelling and personal property if your sewers or drains back up into your home.
SCHEDULED PROPERTY: This would provide much broader coverage for specific items such as jewelry, furs, hearing aids, antiques, collectibles, fine arts, or personal items used in business, etc. that are typically limited in coverage.
SPECIAL PERSONAL PROPERTY: This endorsement provides “Special Form” coverage for your personal property.
BUILDING ORDINANCE OR LAW: This would insure your dwelling and other structures against loss resulting from ordinances or laws that regulate the construction, repair, or demolition of your property.
SERVICE LINE COVERAGE: This optional coverage provides up to $15,000 for loss or damage to underground service lines caused by wear and tear, rust or other corrosion, collapse (not including sinkhole), electrical and mechanical or pressure systems breakdown, and freezing.
BUILDING ADDITIONS AND ALTERATIONS: As a condo unit owner, this endorsement provides coverage for your interior walls-in building items such as drywall, carpet, fixtures, cabinets, paint, etc. Special form coverage is available. Be sure that the amount of coverage in your policy is sufficient to rebuild or replace the items that your By-Laws state are your responsibility.
HOME-BASED BUSINESS: This endorsement offers a package of coverages tailored to the needs of small business owners and may be provided to homeowners who are owners of eligible businesses operated at the primary residence premises.
PERSONAL INJURY: Provides coverage for personal injury caused to others. A personal injury is an offense such as false arrest, detention, or imprisonment, malicious prosecution, libel or slander, defamation of character or violation of a person’s right of privacy, wrongful entry or eviction, or other invasion of the right of private occupancy.
IDENTITY THEFT COVERAGE: This endorsement provides coverage for expenses incurred because of identity theft. Covered expenses include lost wages and incurred costs that may be required by the insured to repair the damage caused by the theft or improper use of the insured’s credit records.
UNDAMAGED SIDING OR ROOFING: This coverage will apply when a portion of siding or roofing is damaged and similar siding or roofing material is no longer available. The damage must be caused by a peril we insure against in this policy.
INTERIOR MATCHING PROTECTION: This coverage will apply when a portion of an interior feature is damaged and similar material is no longer available. Coverage options of 10% or 25% of Coverage A are available. This coverage only applies to cabinets, countertops, wall and floor coverings, interior doors and trim.
LOSS ASSESSMENT COVERAGE: Provides coverage when you are a member of a condo or homeowner’s association and are assessed a portion of the loss by the association.
EQUIPMENT BREAKDOWN COVERAGE: This optional endorsement provides up to $100,000 of coverage, subject to the selected deductible amount, for direct physical damage to “covered equipment” resulting from sudden and accidental mechanical or electrical breakdown; or tearing apart, cracking, burning or bulging of a heating or air conditioning system, or a water heating appliance. The endorsement is intended to cover the major equipment or system components of a home normally included under Coverage A - Dwelling or Coverage B - Other Structures.
FUNGI, WET OR DRY ROT, OR BACTERIA COVERAGE: This endorsement provides coverage for loss, under Section I -- Property Protection, for fungi, wet or dry rot, or bacteria damage resulting from a peril covered by the policy. Section II B Personal Liability Protection coverage is also provided when the insured person becomes legally obligated to pay damages because of bodily injury or property damage caused by an occurrence covered by the policy.
GUARANTEED HOME REPLACEMENT COST COVERAGE: This coverage provides replacement of the dwelling at the insured location or elsewhere in excess of the insured amount.
OTHER MISCELLANEOUS COVERAGES such as Child Care Liability, Incidental Farming, Mine Subsidence, Watercraft Liability, Enhanced High Value Protection, Residence Held in Trust, Uninsured Watercraft, Water seepage or Leakage, etc.

This coverage would provide $1 million or more of liability protection above your current policy limits for a minimal cost (usually under $300/yr). Trailer Coverage Options
Pest Damage Protectionâ„ Coverage
Pays for damage to your vehicle caused by birds, rats, mice, insects or other rodents/vermin.
Coverage includes a $250 deductible, meaning you'll pay the first $250 in damages, and we'll cover the rest.
Note: This coverage can be purchased for eligible vehicles 0-5 model years old. It remains on your policy until your vehicle is 16 years old. This coverage won't be effective until 31 days after you add it, and it's not available on stationary travel trailers.
Roof Protection Plus®
Pays to repair or replace your vehicle's roof if it's damaged. This includes damage caused by general wear and tear, and damage to other parts of your vehicle caused by the roof. A $250 deductible applies. This coverage can be purchased for eligible vehicles 0-5 model years old. It remains on the policy until the vehicle is 16 years old. This coverage is effective 31 days after you add it, and it's not available on stationary travel trailers.
Watercraft Coverage Options
WATERCRAFT LIABILITY: Covers you (up to your policy limits) if you’re legally responsible for injuries or property damage caused by using, maintaining, or owning the listed watercraft.
MEDICAL PAYMENTS TO YOU: This would provide coverage for medical bills incurred because of injury to you from a boating accident.
MEDICAL PAYMENTS TO OTHERS: This provides coverage for medical bills incurred because of injury to your guests and/or your passengers from a boating accident.
UNINSURED WATERCRAFT BODILY INJURY: This would provide coverage for bodily injury which you and your passengers are legally entitled to recover from the owner or operator of an uninsured watercraft.
EMERGENCY SERVICES: This coverage provides reimbursement for the cost of having your boat towed, fuel delivery, or labor charges for repair at the place of disablement. Some options may also include salvage recovery.
HULL COVERAGE: This provides physical damage coverage for your watercraft. Coverage options may include actual cash value, stated amount, guaranteed amount, replacement cost, or agreed value depending on the age of the watercraft and carrier selected.
LOAN GAP: This provides coverage for the boat and outboard motor(s) in the event of a total loss where the loan balance exceeds the actual cash value at the time of a total loss. Limitations and exclusions apply.
An endorsement may also be added to cover your personal belongings, fuel spillage, safety equipment, fishing equipment, electronic equipment, and accessories.
Umbrella Coverage Options
UMBRELLA LIABILITY: This is additional liability coverage that kicks in after your other, underlying insurance limits are exhausted and, in some cases, can be a primary source of coverage where no underlying coverage was previously required. It protects you from major claims or lawsuits, covering things like injuries, property damage, or legal fees that exceed your home, auto, or boat insurance limits.
UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTORIST BODILY INJURY: This coverage provides an excess amount of coverage for bodily injury to you if you’re hit by another driver who is at fault and uninsured or doesn’t have enough coverage to pay for your medical bills, loss of wages, etc. This is an optional coverage and is not available in every state with every carrier.

Commercial Auto Coverage Options
The following coverages are available for most automobile insurance policies. Not all coverages are available with all companies and some limitations and exclusions apply. DRIVE OTHER CAR COVERAGE (DOC): If a named insured is an individual and the policy covers at least one auto that meets the definition of a private passenger auto, all coverages afforded to the described private passenger auto automatically extend to the use of most non-owned autos by the named insured, spouse or resident family member who does not own an auto. However, coverage does not extend to autos furnished or available for regular use to the named insured, spouse or resident family member.
HIRED AUTOS LIABILITY/PHYSICAL DAMAGE: Coverage extends to autos hired, leased, rented or borrowed by the named insured. Coverage is excluded for any auto lease, hire, rent or borrow from any of your employees, partners (if you are a partnership), members (if you are a limited liability company), executive officers (if you are a corporation), or members of their households.
NON-OWNED AUTOS LIABILITY: Non-Owned Autos Liability Coverage applies to those autos not owned, leased, hired, rented, or borrowed that are used in connection with the insured’s business. This includes autos owned by employees, partners (if a partnership), members (if a limited liability company), executive officers (if a corporation), or members of their households, but only while used in the insured’s business or personal affairs.
CUSTOM EQUIPMENT: Coverage for custom equipment permanently installed by the original manufacturer or dealership as part of the original sale is automatically provided when the covered vehicle is insured for Other Than Collision and/or Collision. If you have equipment installed by someone else, this coverage needs to be added.
Other Miscellaneous Coverages: Garagekeepers, Contingent Liability, Certain Operations in Connection with Railroads, Diminished Value, Motor Carrier, Motor Truck Cargo Liability, Bob Tail and Deadhead Coverage, Primary and Noncontributory, Waiver of Subrogation, On-Hook Towing, Non-Owner Trailer, etc.

Commercial Coverage Options
The following coverages are available for most commercial insurance policies. Not all coverages are available with all companies, and some limitations and exclusions apply. COMMERCIAL GENERAL LIABILITY: Provides bodily injury and property damage liability on an “occurrence” basis. Provides coverage against claims for bodily injury, property damage, personal and advertising injury arising from premises/operations in conjunction with the insured’s business, and bodily injury and property damage arising from products/completed operations in conjunction with the insured's business.
COMMERCIAL PROPERTY: Includes Building and Personal Property items. This may include building glass, debris removal, inventory, leased copy equipment, furniture, fixtures, food, utilities, pollutant clean up, ordinance or law, etc.
INLAND MARINE: Provides coverage on a “blanket” or scheduled item basis for tools, equipment, installation items, signs, motor cargo, farm equipment, etc.
DIRECTORS & OFFICERS ERRORS AND OMISSIONS: Provides liability coverage for Commercial or Residential Condominium Associations, Homeowners or Mobile Homeowners Associations and Townhome Association Board of Directors.
OTHER E&O/PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY COVERAGES: Contractors, Funeral Directors or Cemeteries, Barbers, Beauticians and Manicurists, Florists, Pet Groomers, Printers, etc.
LIQUOR LIABILITY: Provides coverage against claims for "damages" sustained by the insured by reason of the selling, serving or furnishing of any alcoholic beverage.
CYBER COVERAGE: This coverage may include first-party coverage: Data Compromise Response Expenses, Computer Attack, Cyber Extortion, Misdirected Payment Fraud, Computer Fraud, Telecommunications Fraud, and Identify Recovery, and the following third-party coverages: Privacy Incidental Liability, Network Security Liability, and Electronic Media Liability.
VOLUNTARY DAMAGE TO PROPERTY OF OTHERS: Covers damage to property of others arising out of the insured’s business operations, away from the insured’s premises, including damage to property in the care, custody or control of the insured. Coverage applies regardless of legal liability and even though the damage was not technically caused by an accident, provided it was not intentional.
EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES LIABILITY: Coverage is provided on a claims-made basis for losses arising out of wrongful employment acts. Defense costs are within the limit of liability. Wrongful employment acts include but are not limited to the following: Harassment; Discrimination; Wrongful Termination; Defamation; Retaliation; Misrepresentation; Libel; Slander; Emotional Distress; Mental Anguish; Negligence; Wrongful Discipline; Failure to Promote.
STOP GAP - EMPLOYERS LIABILITY COVERAGE ENDORSEMENT: Ohio Workers Compensation Insurance Fund is the exclusive recourse for injured employees, but the possibility of a suit may still exist where the employee may sue the employer. This endorsement, Stop Gap - Employers Liability Coverage, is designed to help cover this gap. It provides for employee bodily injury by accident and by disease.
EMPLOYEE BENEFITS LIABILITY: The Employee Benefits Liability Insurance Endorsement provides coverage for negligent acts, errors or omissions of the insured in the administration of the insured’s employee benefits program.
HIRED AUTOS LIABILITY: Extends liability coverage to autos hired, leased, rented or borrowed by the named insured. Coverage is excluded for any auto lease, hire, rent or borrow from any of your employees, partners (if you are a partnership), members (if you are a limited liability company), executive officers (if you are a corporation), or members of their households.
NON-OWNED AUTOS LIABILITY: Non-Owned Autos Liability Coverage applies to those autos not owned, leased, hired, rented, or borrowed that are used in connection with the insured’s business.
